Ein Beispiel kann die Probleme vielleicht erläutern. Wir sind uns doch sicher einig, dass Atypus sulzeri Latreille, 1806 ein Synonym von Atypus piceus (Sulzer, 1776) ist. Das entspricht dem allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch und der Verwendung in der mir bekannten zoologischen Literatur. Wenn aber Atypus sulzeri ein Synonym von Atypus piceus ist, dann ist es auch ein Synonym von Aranea picea Sulzer, 1776, also dem ursprünglichen wissenschaftlichen Namen der Art. Soweit ist das doch ganz konventionell und allgemein akzeptiert. Wenn aber A ein Synonym von B und C ist, dann ist B auch ein Synonym von C, ausser wenn A zwei verschiedene Bedeutungen hat. Also ist auch Atypus piceus ein Synonym von Aranea picea. QED.

Es kann kein Zweifel bestehen, dass es sich bei Araneus melloi Brignoli, 1983, um ein jüngeres objektives Synonym von Aculepeira albovittata (Mello-Leitão, 1941) handelt, und dass der Name als solches auch in der Zukunft verfügbar ist, zum Beispiel, wenn die Arten wieder in Araneus vereinigt werden sollten. Auch hier erfordert die Synonymie keinen formellen nomenklatorischen Akt, sondern ist bereits im Akt der Ersatznamensgebung per definitionem mitenthalten.
