Chernes cimicoides? => Chernetidae
« am: 2017-01-10 08:27:41 »
Hello dear forum members,

Can anyone if it's possible help me to ID this pseudoscorpion? Shot in Ukraine (Kharkiv, urban forest, on the dead wood).
Looked through some pics of Chernetidae and can't decide, it's Chernes cimicoides or Dendrochernes cyrneus (or maybe something else?).

Thank you in advance!

Hello Armen,

Despite the good quality of the photo's, it's not possible to go further than the family (even if the genus Chernes is a good possibility).
Different things have to be checked : trichobothria on the pedipalp and measures of the different segments of this pedipalp, a long seta or not on the femur IV, a pair of long setae on the tergite 11 or not, and so on... In mostly cases, the study of pseudoscorpions is really difficult !
If you collected it, you may send it to me and I will give it a name.

Hi Pierre,
I've already asked if the animal was collected, the answer was negative... :(
As i understood, it could be safely determined only to the family rank. So be it :)
